FAQ
Does getting a tattoo hurt?
Do you imagine being stabbed with needles thousands of times hurts? Yes, tattoos hurt. It's not an extremely intense pain, but you'll notice it. Also, the position of the tattoo makes it more or less intense. A person's own tolerance for pain will determine their ability to get tattooed for long periods. As outlines, shading, and color are added, the artist will need to cover the same area several times. What may not hurt much the first time tends to get more intense as time goes on. While we can go as long as you want, we recommend knowing your limits and not trying to do too much at one time. Many people get large, colorful tattoos done over many sessions.
How long does it take to heal?
About a week total, more or less depending on the type of work done. Small tattoos tend to heal faster. Make sure to follow the instructions given by your tattooer to take care of your tattoo after work is done. Good aftercare helps the tattoo heal faster, last longer, and look better.
What are good aftercare tips?
Take care of washing it in the shower, just put soap on your hand and rub gently. Let it air out and try to keep clothing from sticking to it. Use a quality lotion, and/or tattoo foam for 2-3 days afterwards. As the tattoo becomes more itchy, don't scratch it. Slap it through your shirt, or put Lubriderm lotion on it. Continue using lotion several times a day until it stops itching. And finally, DON'T PICK THE SCABS! Ask your tattooer if you have any questions, they want their work to look its best too.
I just got drunk/stoned, can I get a tattoo?
Not here you can't. While we're all cool here, this is a business. You should not make a permanent life-decision while messed up. Alcohol thins the blood and makes tattooing a lot more bloody than it needs to be. Drugs and alcohol also increase a person's possiblity of passing out while work is being done. At that point, you're at our mercy, so do yourself a favor and only come to get a tattoo if you are sober :-)
How come you guys charge more than my cousin Billy Bob?
At Body Language, we sterilize all equipment that isn't thrown away after use. We make sure each customer is served in a sterile, safe environment. We are all trained in CPR in case the worst happens. We take our art very seriously, and you aren't just paying for the needles and ink. You pay for the talent, skill, and experience of the artist.
I have an extra DVD player, can I trade you it for a tattoo?
DVD players are not accepted by mortgage companies or GMAC. When they are, we will accept them as payment. But if you have a PS3, we'll talk.
Are you like the guys on Miami Ink?
No.
